Hi folks, I've noticed from the web site logs that a lot of people still visit this site. I've started a discussion in the forums under General Discussion to ask you about the future of the site. Should I keep it up? Upgrade it? Delete it? Change it into more of a community? Please post in the forum or contact me and let me know your thoughts! Thanks.
Yes, I have actually started working on upgrading the site! First, and most importantly, we have a new Discussion Forum set up. This new version is a big improvement, and it also requires users to log in before posting, so there will be no more problems with people impersonating others. Head over and try it out! Creating an account is simple, you'll be on your way in no time. Thanks again for visiting.
OK, as is obvious to any continued site participants, I have been very busy lately. Recently, I started revamping my entire site, which is going to include the American Psycho site. Changes will probably be rolled out in one big lump, so when the switchover happens, you'll know it. Some things to be on the lookout for:
Anton Trees sends word that he has started an American Psycho discussion group at Yahoo! Discussions. Check it out.
The film "American Psycho" has been nominated for two Chlotrudis Awards. Christian Bale received a nomination in the category of Best Actor for his chilling performance as Patrick Bateman, and Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner have been nominated for the exquisite adaptation they wrote of Bret Easton Ellis' book. Please visit their website at http://www.chlotrudis.org/ for more information, or to see the complete list of nominees and to place your vote for this year's Chlotrudis Award winners. The Chlotrudis Awards is a non-profit organization that serves to honor and support independent films. This year marks their Seventh Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held on March 31 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Greetings, stalwart American Psycho fan! Yes, to answer you thoughts, this site is still alive, and so am I. I've been gone for a long time now, very busy with career changes, life decisions, etc etc. I just wanted you to know that I haven't forgotten about the site and that I'm planning on a major revamping in the near future. My plan is to try and make the site more "community" and easier for you folks to add content and participate. Thanks for your continuing attention, and keep your eyes peeled for oncoming changes.
As some of you may be aware, the DVD and VHS of American Psycho has been released. I haven't had a chance to see the unedited version yet, but as I understand it they only added back in the controversial sex scene. Once I see it I'll post a bit more about it.
The complete AmPsycho 2000 emails are now up for your viewing pleasure. I'm also very glad to say that the negative influence of the 1 or 2 asshole posters who were hounding the discussion forums has been reduced to ZERO. The discussions are back on track and very thought-provoking. Check them out! And thanks to all for participating. The jerk posters continue to try and get through, but I am stopping them cold. So please ignore any of their posts if you see one before I can delete it. These dumbasses clearly do not understand that I BUILD WEB APPLICATIONS FOR A LIVING and I am very good at what I do. The tools I've built allow me to delete their crap in about 5 seconds. :-) It is really funny watching these morons go, though. They'll post a message, then answer their own post pretending to be someone else, then impersonate someone and insult another user to start trouble, etc. They sit here for HOURS doing this. HOURS!!! I snicker loudly while deleting all their hours of work with one mouse click. hahahaa. Hopefully at some point they'll get bored of this, but I can keep it up as long as I need to. 5 seconds of my time is not much compared to the hours they are spending posting this garbage. God, I love winning. ;-)
OK, so I'm dealing with the issue of people posting stupid, juvenile crap in the forums. Hopefully you'll see the quality of the threads start to improve as a result. Again, thanks for staying with me through these problems. I really am trying, probably more than I should, but I want this site to be a fertile ground for the discussion of this thought-provoking novel. I really must say that the few individuals responsible for these absurd posts make me laugh my ass off. These people must spend HOURS sitting on my site, typing in crap just to get off on it. I might actually find this flattering if it wasn't SO pathetic. At any rate, the issue now is people impersonating other people. For this reason, I will be setting up a login system. This way, you can at least be more sure about who is posting something. Email validation will be a part of it, so I'll have this extra layer of security as well. This change will be coming soon, so keep your eye out. I apologize for the inconvienence, but if this helps at all then it is worth it to me. I hope it is worth it to you as well. Thanks!
I've posted all of the AmPsycho 2000 emails. You can view them here. This is ALL the email and some images, so it may take a moment to load.
Thanks to all who have offered suggestions to my forum dillema (see below). Please post any ideas you have! Also, I am going to post all of the Am.2000 emails here shortly. I've gotten many requests from folks who missed some or all of them. They are on the way.
If you use the discussion forums, please read this discussion thread. It is an important discussion regarding the future of the discussion forums.
If you didn't know, emails from Patrick Bateman have been coming in to subscribers of the AM.Psycho 2000 list. It seems Patrick DID end up marrying Jean, and had a baby to boot, but they have ended up in divorce (surprise?). The messages are great, so if you haven't signed up yet you should do so! In addition, the messages include links to exclusive RealVideo shorts about the movie.
I've done some work on the discussion forums to improve the interface. Hope you find the changes useful. Oh, and I noticed some of the discussions are straying. I'll never be one to tell you what you can write, but lets try to keep it civilized and relevant to the topic. The only way the forums work is if everyone has some mutual respect for each other as fans of the book. Thanks!
I spoke too soon about the lack of news. The Official Movie site will be running a "Get Email from Patrick" feature starting on March 15. Bret Easton Ellis himself will be writing diary entries from Patrick in the year 2000, and emailing them out! I think this is definitely worth checking out. Click here to sign up and recieve the email.
I've added a new poll to the Opinion section, check it out. Not much else is new on the news front, but there are some interesting conversations going on in the discussion forums. As soon as I hear anything new, I'll post it.
The new trailer for the American Psycho movie is online at Film.com. Check it out, I think it looks pretty good. Much better than the previous trailer.
The release date for the film has been pushed back to April 14, 2000. No word yet on the reason for the change.
Film.com and RealNetworks will be offering the new, full-length American Psycho trailer as of next Wednesday or Thursday, according to Lions Gate. The new trailer will also be popping up in theatres next weekend.
Since Lions Gate will have to edit the film to recieve an R rating, they have decided to release an unedited version of the film when it comes out on video. I think its great to know that the MPAA nazis won't get the final word!
I've started upgrading the site, mainly focusing on making it easier for me to add content, with a few cosmetic changes, but nothing major. As a user, you won't notice much of a difference except that there will be more fresh content showing up since I can now add content from anywhere. Go post!
I've been contacted by Lion's Gate films, who run the official American Psycho Movie site. Seems they like my site and want to link to it, as well as help with content and information. So I may be getting content and news updates straight from them, as well as possibly some goodies to give away. I'll keep you posted as release date approaches.
After problems with the old site location at microclear.net, I decided to purchase my own domain name. Now that I have it, this is where the American Psycho site will stay. No more location switches! Thanks for your continued support! WARNING: Even though I'll try to keep this site as unoffensive and intellectual as possible, you should expect to see discussions of explicit material. The novel American Psycho contains scenes of graphic violence and sex. Please press BACK on your browser or click here if you are offended by explicit material. Navigating the site is easy. Just select one of the topics from the menu on the left: MAIN: Takes you back to this title page. ABOUT: About the novel "American Psycho".
